Obituary of Kim Irwin Miller

Former Port Allegany resident Kim I. Miller, 58, died, November 24, 2010 at his home in Homestead, FL. Kim was born in Bradford, PA on April 30, 1952 to Gerald (Jerry) M. Miller and Gwen E. (Grove) Miller. He was a 1970 graduate of Port Allegany High School. As a youth Kim enjoyed many outdoor activities; swimming, cycling, canoeing, camping, fishing, hiking, and hunting; many done with the local Boy Scout troop of which Kim was an active member, achieving the goal of Eagle Scout. As a young man Kim became a motorcycle enthusiast, travelling with family, friends, and often on his own around the beautiful USA. Following graduation Kim worked locally until his enlistment in the military. Kim served honorably in the US Navy for six years, aboard ship and nuclear submarine. While serving his country Kim had the opportunity to visit countries abroad and thrilled his younger sisters with postcards and letters of his many foreign adventures. But nothing thrilled them more than the anticipation of his returning stateside, especially for the Holidays. Following his Naval Service Kim transitioned to employment in the Nuclear Power Industry for several years. He later found his niche as a boat and auto mechanic, working most recently for Dade County in Florida. The warm climate and his acquired love of scuba diving drew him to settle in Florida where he had resided for the past 20 years. Kim had a passion for history and physics; engaging conversation and debate with people of all ages to share his knowledge. He was a natural comedian with a flair for impersonations and was able to entertain by word and song with his beautiful baritone voice. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Kim is survived by his Mother, Gwen Miller, 4 sisters; Kris Nulph, Jan Maree Treat, Hedy Hopewell and spouse Curtis, and Holly Miller, 2 extended siblings; Kevin Hanley and spouse Kathy, and Sue Yanuzzi, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Father, Gerald Miller; infant brother, Gregory Miller; sister, Jill Miller Kio and life partner, Lora Steinberg. The family has chosen a private memorial service. Memorials in remembrance of Kim can be given to Port Allegany First Presbyterian Church, Camp JJ, PO Box 446 Bradford PA 16701, or charity of choice.
