Obituary of Edith E. Dickerson

East Smethport - Edith E. Gorton Dickerson, 88, of East Smethport, died Tuesday (February 1, 2011) in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport. She was born Dec 14, 1922 in Russell City, PA, a daughter of Edward Lee and Daisy Irwin Burton. She was married to Ray H. Gorton and Elmer R. Dickerson, who both preceded her in death. Mrs. Dickerson went to Russell City grade school and was a graduate of Kane High School. She was employed as an inspector of airplane parts during World War II in Corry, PA. She attended Salvation Army College in New York City and was employed by the Salvation Army College for several years. She was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service for about 20 years, and retired as Post Mistress from the East Smethport, PA Post Office in 1988. She was a devoted member of the Smethport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She is survived by one daughter: Nancy (Bob) Good of East Smethport, PA 2 granddaughters: Kelly Martin and Tanya Silvis 1 grandson: Cody Good 5 great grandchildren: Brittany Good, LaDawn Silvis, Zachary Martin, Jacob Silvis, and Natalie Good and several nieces and nephews In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 P.M. and again from 10-12 noon on Saturday at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral and committal services will begin at 12 Noon Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Alan Thompson and the Rev. David Burton, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Highland, PA. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Smethport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Pine & Water St., Smethport, PA 16749.
