Obituary of Wilfred C. Burgie

Smethport, PA-Wilfred C. Burgie, age 80, a resident of Woolwich Twp., NJ for the past ten years, passed away at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, on Saturday, March 26, 2011. Born in Castile, NY and reared in Smethport, PA, he was the son of the late Wilfred C. and Blanche Hanchett Burgie. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was attached to an intelligence unit in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University having received a BS in Hotel Administration and a Masters in Education in Higher Education from Ohio University. For many years he managed hotels and motels and retired as a college professor from Hocking College, Nelsonville OH after having taught hotel/restaurant courses. Bill enjoyed collecting antiques, attending antiques auctions, gardening, and especially treasured spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jeanne Neidig Burgie, his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Stephen Wilkinson, his adoring grandchildren, Devon and Conor, his sister, Florence Burgie, and several very special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Regena Burgie Love, and his brother, John Burgie. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 1, at 11 AM, from the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St. Smethport, PA. Prior to the services, there will be a visiting hour starting at 10 AM. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, and a Masonic service will be conducted by the McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kitchen Committee of Asbury United Methodist Church, 149 S Main St., Woodstown, NJ 08098.
