Obituary of Phyllis Jean Russell

Smethport - Phyllis Jean Russell, 72, of Smethport, died Wednesday (June 15, 2011) in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport. She was born Sept. 19, 1938 in Crosby, a daughter of Glenn Clair and Olive Mae McClimans McDowell. Phyllis was a 1956 graduate of Smethport Area High School. She had worked as Director for the Office of Human Services Area Agency on Aging as the RSVP director for 11 years, and care manager for 5 years. She was formerly employed by Dr. C.F. Michaelson and did catering in the Smethport area for many years. She was a member of Smethport Senior Center, the Smethport Elderberry Club, the Norwich Grange #2018, the Smethport American Legion Auxillary #138, was on the Office of Human Services Regional Advisory Council, and was on the McKean County Fair Board of Directors. She was a friend to all the community. She is survived by three sons: James D. (Kathryn) Russell and Herbert "Mike" Russell, both of Smethport, PA, and Mark A. Russell of Punxsutawney, PA three Grandchildren: Evelyn L., Owen M., and Ayden G. Russell two sisters: Trilby VanKirk and Adelaide Stanton, both of Smethport, PA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, June 18, at 10 A.M., with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating, and Pastor Kenneth Stanton as co-officiant. Burial will be in the St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.
