Obituary of Clayton C. Abbott

Port Allegany- Clayton C. Abbott, 91, of Port Allegany, died Wednesday (August 10, 2011) in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport. He was born Oct 19, 1919 in Sergeant, a son of Fred and Sadie McDowell Abbott. On May 29, 1971, in Portville, NY, he married Betty L. Young, who survives. Mr. Abbott attended Kane schools and was a TEC 4 in the U.S. Army, serving with the Timber Wolves during WWII from 1942 to 1945. After returning from the service, he went to Barber School in Pittsburgh, PA. He worked as a Barber in Port Allegany for Mr. John McLaughlin in the Butler Hotel, and later opened his own shop, Abbott's Barber Shop, in Port Allegany, from which he retired in 2010. He was a member of Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460, and the American Legion; Frank Burt Post of Port Allegany. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother: Kenneth (Virginia) Abbott of Port Allegany, PA One Niece Sherri Kinney and one Nephew Ralph Abbott both of Port Allegany and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc, 105 N Main St, Port Allegany, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 am, in the funeral home, with the Rev. LaVerne Howard, pastor of the Sartwell Creek Union Church, officiating.
