Obituary of William Gault

Smethport - William Gault, 89, of, Smethport, formerly of Cyclone, PA died Sunday (August 21, 2011) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport. He was born Nov 8, 1921 in Bellshill, Scotland, a son of Robert and Susanna Wilson Gault. He arrived in America at Ellis Island on July 14, 1923. On June 14, 1958 in Bradford he married Martha M. Johnson, who died Dec. 21, 1997. Mr. Gault attended school until the eighth grade when he left to help support his family. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army, serving with the 29th Bomb Disposal Squadron. Mr. Gault's Squadron fought in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return from the war, he went to barber school in Erie and barbered on the side and after retirement Mr. Gault worked for Tidewater and then went on to work for National Transit Co. of Bradford for over 25 years retiring in 1987. Mr. Gault enjoyed fly fishing and fly tying and sharing his knowledge of both with anyone who was interested. He enjoyed his garden and usually gave half of it away. He loved playing his guitar and harmonica and was known for his great sense of humor. He is survived by One daughter: Mischelle (Randy) Heffner of Cyclone, PA Three sons: Robert Gault of Bradford, PA, Gregory Gault of Cyclone, PA, Thomas Gault of Smethport, PA Six grandchildren: Jeremy, Dustin, Robert, Jennifer, Rachelle, Shawna and 6 great grandchildren. Two sisters Margaret "Peg" Hartle of Bradford and Jeanette "Net" Hugill of Port Allegany. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a daughter; Christine Jacoby, one Sister Mary "May" t Garris and 3 brothers Robert, John "Jack" and James Gault. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA,. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 24 at 11:00 am in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, PA with the Rev Max Simms Pastor officiating. Burial will be in the McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Bucktail Post 138 of Smethport Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to the charity of the donor's choice.
