Obituary of Richard S. Nourse

Smethport - Richard S. Nourse, 90, of East Smethport, died Monday (December 12, 2011) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born April 20, 1921 in Smethport, a son of Forrest H. and Pearl S. Sawtelle Nourse. On June 29, 1973, in Bradford, PA, he married Doris Ann Scott-Sinclair, who survives. Mr. Nourse was a 1939 graduate of Smethport Area High School and attended the Pennsylvania Military College in Chester, PA. He entered the Army upon graduating from the military college in 1943, serving with the Corps of Engineers, and was discharged in 1946 from active duty. He remained in the Army Reserves until discharged in 1957 as Captain. After his military service, he went to Tri State College for electrical training. He then joined his father's business, Forrest H. Nourse Electrical and Plumbing, as an electrical contractor. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Smethport, the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, where he was Past Commander, the Coudersport Consistory, International Order of Odd Fellows: Smethport Lodge #389, Capeville Lodge #107 F&AM of Capeville, VA, the Zem Zem Shriners of Erie, PA, and the McKean County Roadrunners. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters out of the local area and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Forrest H. Nourse, Jr. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport. Funeral and committal services will be held on Friday, Dec. 16 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home with the Rev. David Bunnell, pastor of the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, Bradford, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. A service will be held at 7 P.M. Thursday during visitation by the I.O.O.F. Lodge #389 of Smethport, followed by a Masonic service conducted by the McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport at 7:30 P.M.
