Obituary of David A. Calhoun

Smethport - David A. Calhoun, Sr., 64, of Hazel Hurst, died unexpectedly, Thursday (April 5, 2012) in the Kane Community Hospital, Kane. He was born Aug 29, 1947 in Shinglehouse, PA, a son of Delmar Ford and Gladys Mary Mesler Calhoun. In 1969, he married Gloria K. Bickford, who survives. Mr. Calhoun served in the U.S. Army, and was employed as an auto mechanic and bus driver at C.L. McKeirnan, Inc., School Bus Contractor and Automotive Garage of Smethport. Mr. Calhoun enjoyed hunting, dirt track racing, camping, and spending time with his family and many friends. He also enjoyed driving bus for many Smethport Hubber sporting events. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Stephany (Jim Avery) Calhoun and Heather (Rob) Herbstritt, both of Bradford, PA, Teresa (Chris) Stahli of Mt. Jewett, PA, three sons: Robert Swick of Bradford, PA, David A. Calhoun, II of Hazel Hurst, PA, and Daniel (Sunny Higby) Calhoun of Richburg, NY Grandchildren: Kyle Field, Brandi Stiable, Jared Sherman, Harley Calhoun, Courtney Stiable, Kobe Calhoun, Madison Stahli, and Izaac Calhoun One Great Granddaughter: Brittany Eaton one sister: Sandra (Bucky) Greenman of Wellsville, NY one brother: Duane Calhoun of Florien, LA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one grandson, Travis Lee Field; one daughter, Mindy Lynne Bickford; one sister, Freda Calhoun; two brothers, Bruce and Donald Calhoun. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Allen D. Young, pastor of the East Smethport United Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
