Obituary of Clair J. Burdick

Smethport - Clair J. Burdick, 73, of Smethport, died Monday (June 4, 2012) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport. He was born June 11, 1938 in Crosby, a son of Rodney A. and Dorothy Johnson Burdick. Mr. Burdick was a 1956 graduate of Smethport High School and attended Bryant & Stratton College of Buffalo, NY, where he attained a Business Degree. He was a SPC4 in the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam. Mr. Burdick had worked at Burdick's Insurance in Smethport, Burdick's Garage, and co-owned and operated Coleman's Outdoor Store. His last employment, he worked for the Smethport Post Office as a Postal Worker, retiring in 2006 after 28 years of service. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, St. Luke's Episcopal Church Vestry, the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, where he was a past President, the Smethport Sports Boosters, was a Smethport Hubber Wrestling and Football team statistician for many years, and was Videographer for the Hubber Football Team for countless games. He is survived by three sons: Joel D. (Laura) Burdick of New Albany, OH, Don (Jenn) Burdick of Erie, PA, Craig (Gina) Burdick of Heath, OH five Granddaughters: Jordan, Alexa, Ashley, Brooke, and Avery 1 Grandson: Caden three sisters: Dorothy "Jean" Leet of Port Allegany, PA, Carol VanGorder and Sue (Brad) Ferman of Smethport, PA three brothers: Carl "Cork" Burdick of Smethport, PA, Earl "Butch" Burdick of Port Allegany, PA, Jeffrey (Tammy) Burdick of Binghamton, NY special niece: Amber (Jim) Berlin of Smethport, PA., as well as many other nieces and nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Rodney W. and Richard Burdick. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 11 A.M. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smethport, with the Rev. William Crittenden, officiating. Committal will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport at the cemetery.
