Obituary of Charles H. Freer

Smethport - Charles H. Freer, 88, of Smethport, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Monday (August 13, 2012) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born May 10, 1924 in Port Allegany, a son of Lucius and Rena Moore Freer. On June 24, 1946, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, he married Laverne Catherine Rodgers, who survives. Mr. Freer attended Smethport schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at Quaker State Refinery, Farmers Valley, for over 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Smethport, and the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, gardening and square dancing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: Four sons: James (Sharon) Freer of Lynnwood, WA; William (Betty) Freer of St. Marys, PA; Bernard (Jane) Freer of Smethport; Larry (Marilyn) Freer of Fairview, NC Six daughters: Evelyn "Susie" Wilson of Rochester, NY; Marcia (Steven) Jordan of Smethport; Marilyn (Rick) Greene of Portville, NY; Rena (Bill) Reigel of Emporium; Mary (Mark) Hall of Hillsborough, NC; Nancy Freer of Norwich, NY 15 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren Two brothers: Gordon (Betty) Freer of North Huntingdon, PA and LeRoy (Sandy) Freer of Burgettstown, PA Two sisters: Helen Roote of Wellsburg, NY and Alice (Don) Burrows of Rixford And many nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Peter Freer, who died in 1976. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, at 10 A.M., in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. A Christian Wake service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:45PM.
