Obituary of Virginia M. Tanner

Smethport - Virginia M. Tanner, 95, of East Smethport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (April 9, 2014) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport. She was born July 26, 1918 in New Fane, NY, a daughter of Elmer and Donna Andrews. On Oct. 19, 1939, in East Smethport United Christian Church, she married Richard C. Tanner, who died on March 22, 2008. Mrs. Tanner was a graduate of New Fane High School of New Fane, NY and was a homemaker, tending to the needs of her family. Virginia was a member of the East Smethport United Christian Church for over 80 years. She is survived by: one son: Gilbert C. Tanner of East Smethport two granddaughters: Brenda Tanner-Leibenguth of Palm Coast, FL and Teresa LaFountain of Bloomfield, NY one grandson: Pete Leibenguth of Palm Coast, FL three great-grandchildren: Christopher and Angela LaFountain and Felicia Leibenguth and four great-great grandchildren: Jacob, Lillian, Cora, and Kelsi. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Andrews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, from 10 to 11 A.M., at the East Smethport United Christian Church, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Allen Young, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the East Smethport United Christian Church.
