Obituary of James L. Morgan

Smethport - James L. Morgan, 75, of Smethport, died Tuesday (April 29, 2014) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born June 5, 1938 in Kane, a son of James Maurice and Katherine Thomas Morgan. On November 13, 1965, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, PA, he married Barbara L. Benjamin, who survives. Mr. Morgan was a 1956 graduate of Smethport High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. Jim worked for area oil companies as a mechanic for many years. He worked for Pennzoil, then Quaker State. After Quaker State, Jim went to work for the Smethport School District. He was the maintenance supervisor from 1988 to 2001, when he retired. He also had his own company, Jim Morgan Excavating, which he ran for many years. He was a former Sergeant Township Supervisor and was a former member of the Clermont Sportsmen Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Richard "Rick" Morgan and Terry (Elizabeth) Morgan, both of Smethport, 2 step grandchildren, and one brother, Jerome (Marianne) Morgan of Olean, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, from 4-6 P.M., at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will begin at 6 P.M., with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor of St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
