Obituary of Ruth Sophia German

Smethport - Ruth Sophia German, 75, of Waynesville, NC, formerly of Cyclone, PA, passed away Monday (July 28, 2014) at the Mountain Trace Nursing Ctr., Sylva, NC, after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 17, 1938 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of Michael and Mary Elizabeth Hopko Hardisky. She was raised in New Castle. On Feb. 5, 1959, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, she married Harold C. German, who died on Feb. 16, 2002. Mrs. German was a graduate of Shenango High School and was employed at Case Cutlery until her retirement in 1987. Ruth attended church at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church of Smethport and was a volunteer and mentor for the reading literacy program. She is survived by: Three sons: Brad German of Cyclone, Harold (Nichelle) German, Jr. of El Paso, TX, and Mark (Carol) German of Waynesville, NC Two daughters: Denise (Mark) Shick of Waynesville, NC and Theresa Brosenitsch of Cabot, PA 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren Two sisters: Loretta Yasher of New Bedford, PA and Florence Olshausky of New Wilmington, PA Two brothers: James Hardisky of Edinburg, PA and John Hardisky of Mercer, PA And several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold C. German, Jr., eight brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11A.M. To 12 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 1 P.M. on Monday at St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1128 State St., Ste. 301, Erie, PA 16501-1920.
