Obituary of Muriel Elizabeth Towner
Smethport - Muriel Elizabeth Towner, 86, of Smethport, passed away Saturday (December 19, 2015), at her residence in Smethport.
She was born July 12, 1929 in Bradford, a daughter of Roy E. and Verna Belle Ross Miller. On December 7, 1948, in Allegany, NY, she married Floyd Virgil Towner, who died January 1, 1993.
Mrs. Towner attended Farmers Valley and Smethport Schools.
Mrs. Towner was employed for many years as a telephone operator, but was well known as a beautician working from her home shop, Towner's Beauty Shop.
She was a member of the Free Christian Evangelical Church of Smethport for 60 years and was a devoted attendee. Muriel loved to knit, crochet, and do needle work. She also loved cooking.
She is survived by:
one son: Kent Joseph Towner of Smethport
9 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild and 1 Great-Great Grandchild
two sisters: Jane M. Fillhart and Marguerite "Peg" Smith, both of Smethport
three brothers: Frank J. Miller and Robert E. Miller, both of Smethport, and Charles E. Miller of Farmers Valley, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Brand Terry Towner in 1972, two brothers: Roy and Leonard Miller, and two sisters: Gertrude Freeman and Charlotte Miller
In keeping with Muriel's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
