Obituary of Frank John Miller
Smethport - Frank John Miller, 91, of Smethport, formerly of Cyclone, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday (May 19, 2016) at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.
He was born June 3, 1924 in Farmers Valley, a son of Roy E. and Verna Belle Ross Miller. On November 1, 1945, in Coudersport, he married Phyllis Jane Towner, who survives.
Mr. Miller served honorably as a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was on Omaha Beach in Normandy, through Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead.
Mr. Miller worked last for the Smethport Area High School as a maintenance custodian supervisor. He retired from the school in 1989.
He attended the Regular Baptist Church of Smethport and he loved going fishing with his nephew, Dennis.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Three children: Gary E. (Linda) Miller of Bradford , Judy A. Ordiway of Cyclone, and Stanley A. (Lisa) Miller of Columbus, OH
Six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren
two sisters: Jane M. Fillhart and Marquerite "Peg" Smith, both of Smethport
two brothers: Robert E. Miller of Smethport and Charles E. Miller of Farmers Valley
many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by one grandson: David Miller, two brothers, and three sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 23, at noon, in the McKean Memorial Park Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Gregg, pastor of the Regular Baptist Church and the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138, Smethport.
