Obituary of C. Russell Johnson

Smethport – C. Russell Johnson, 84, of Smethport, passed away Friday (May 27, 2016) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport. He was born Sept. 7, 1931 in Ashland, KY, a son of Charles and Elanora Kossman Johnson. On July 20, 1957, he married Anita Dickerson, who survives. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Ashland Sr. High School of Ashland, KY and attended El Paso, TX College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. Mr. Johnson owned and operated C. Russell Johnson Clothiers in Smethport from 1959 to 1998. He was a Life Member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 and VFW Post #2497, both of Smethport, a member of the McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport, the Jamestown (NY) Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine, Smethport Lions Club, Smethport Fire Dept., Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Pennsylvania Society, was the McKean County Republican Committee Chairman, member of the Thule Lodge #127 of Jamestown, NY, the Nordon Club of Jamestown, NY and was Mayor of Smethport for 20 years. He also was a field representative for Senator Joseph Scarnati. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two half-brothers: Thomas Kossman of Emporium and Michael Kossman of Lorame, TX one half-sister: Donna Kay Long of Emporium, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Johnson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 A.M. To 12 Noon at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will begin at noon with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. A Masonic service will be conducted by the McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport.
