Obituary of Glenna J. Burlingame

Smethport-Glenna Jean Burlingame, 83, of Smethport, PA died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at her home. Born August 1, 1932, she was the daughter of Frederick C. Burlingame, Sr. and Gertrude (Cooper) Burlingame of Smethport. She was named in honor of her mother's brother Glenn Cooper. She graduated from Smethport High School in 1950, was active in the school band and chorus and she played French horn in the Smethport Town Band. She was a talented musician playing both piano and organ, and she enjoyed choral singing. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Smethport. After high school, she worked in clerical and bookkeeping positions at Burdick Insurance and Music Company in Smethport, the quality control department at Backus Novelty in Smethport, the McKean County Controller's Office, Allegheny Electronics, and the Trust Department for Producer's Bank in Bradford. She then worked as the bookkeeper for Bradford Aeronautical, an air taxi service at the Bradford Regional Airport. Starting in 1969, she worked 25 years in clerical positions with the McKean County Domestic Relations office until her retirement. Surviving are six nephews and nieces: Diana L. Faes of Jasper, GA; Terry L. Burlingame of the Villages, FL; Philip J. Burlingame of Centre Hall, PA; Michael S. Burlingame of Dayton, OH; Leah Ann Frederick of Butler, PA; and Pamela J. Miller of Smethport, PA. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Eugenia Burlingame, who died in infancy, Mary Lou Burlingame of Olean, NY., and Frederick C. Burlingame, Jr. of Lock Haven, PA. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23 at 11:00 AM from the funeral home with the Rev. Rob Hernan, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
