Obituary of Gary L. Howes

Smethport - Gary L. Howes, Sr., 69, of Smethport, died Tuesday (August 9, 2016) in the Olean General Hospital, Olean. He was born Oct. 14, 1946 in Bradford, a son of Truman and Helen Kehoe Howes. On Feb. 10, 1968, in Bradford, he married Anne Marie Tanner, who survives. Mr. Howes was a 1965 graduate of Bradford High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He worked for Kendall, then Witco, and ultimately, ARG, in Bradford for 36 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #108 of Bradford, was a Mason belonging to the Masonic Union Lodge #334, was a Deputy Game Warden for 13 years, a member of the Special Police, was a past member of the Rew Volunteer Fire Dept., and played Santa Claus on WESB radio for 2 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one son: Gary (Rachel) Howes, Jr. of Smethport, PA seven grandchildren: Cliff, Katelynn, John, Sam, Joe, Tyler and Michael two great-grandchildren: Nadalee and Clifford, Jr. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters: Heather Howes and Emily Sue McCrobie and two brothers. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2016 at 11:00am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bradford, PA. There will be a luncheon following the service at the church. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery, Bradford at a later date and time with the family.
