Obituary of Thomas R. Abbey
Smethport - Thomas R. Abbey, 74, of Smethport, passed away Saturday (November 5, 2016) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
He was born April 5, 1942 in Bradford, a son of Lynn and Jessie Graham Abbey. On May 14, 1966, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, he married Judith A. Berne, who survives.
Mr. Abbey was a 1960 graduate of Smethport Area Jr.-Sr. High School and attended Lehigh University, where he received his Bachelors in Business.
Tom worked for GKN, Pure Carbon, Quaker State, and lastly, for G.E. Thermoelectrics of St. Marys in human resources, retiring in 2004. He also worked for H& R Block after he retired for a period of time.
Tom was a member of St. Elizabeth Church of Smethport, was a past member of the Smethport School Board, and was a past Sam Benedict Football official.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
one daughter: Amy (Paul) Arnett of Annandale, VA
two sons: Tim Abbey of Elizabethtown, PA and Brian (Deborah) Abbey of Mars, PA
four grandchildren: Abbey Arnett and Liam, Declan and Alexis Abbey
two sisters: Shirley Abbey of Smethport and Virginia Stoneking of Mechanicsburg, PA
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. A Christian Wake services will be held at 3:30 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Volunteer Fire Dept., Sena Kean Manor Activities Fund, or the University of Pittsburgh Alzheimer Disease Research Ctr., UPMC Montefiore, 4 West, 3459 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
