Obituary of John J. Lane
Turtlepoint, PA - John "Jack" Lane, 89, a lifetime resident of Turtlepoint, PA, passed away Thursday, (Nov. 17, 2016) doing what he enjoyed most - listening to his St. Bonaventure "Bonnies" basketball game.
Born, Dec. 10, 1926, he was the son of Daniel & Helena Finn Lane. On Jan. 19, 1952 he married Philomena VanBergen Lane who predeceased him in 2002.
He grew up on the family's dairy farm, attending schools in Turtlepoint and Port Allegany. After serving in the U. S. Navy, he returned to the area and attended St. Bonaventure University graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. His working career began with Pittsburgh Corning Corp. in Port Allegany. On June 1, 1967 he started working as Chief Financial Officer for Allegheny Bradford Corp. (TopLine), retiring on 12/31/2001.
Jack was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Marys Church, Sartwell, having served on the Parish Council, the Cemetery Association, the Malcolm Cauley Trust and the Knights of Columbus. His Grandparents immigrated to Turtlepoint from Ireland in the early 1850's. He was proud of his heritage and thankful for the opportunity of beginning a revitalization project that helps preserve the history of both St. Mary's Church and St. Mary's Cemetery now and in the future.
Jack's favorite pastimes were truly diverse - at the top of his list was watching, reading and listening to anything related to the St. Bonaventure 'Bonnies' Basketball program; he also enjoyed 'playing' the stock market; was an avid golfer, traveling to various courses around the country; he was a deer hunter of the first order and degree; was an extraordinary 'master gardener & chef', and last but certainly not least he was a true Irishman having fulfilled his lifelong dream of 'Kissing The Blarney Stone"!
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his infant son John, 2 brothers - Clifford (Wanita) Lane & Daniel (Joyce) Lane, II, Sarah Lane, Mary Lane, Josephine Johnson.
