Obituary of Earl E. Kohler

Smethport - Earl E. "Bud" Kohler, 91, of Smethport, died Thursday (January 12, 2017) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born Sept. 5, 1925 in Buffalo, NY, a son of Edward and Rosa Kohler. On June 6, 1948, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, he married Virginia Vickers, who died in 1997. Mr. Kohler was a graduate of Buffalo schools and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat during his service. Mr. Kohler worked for Western Electric for many years as an installer before his retirement. He is survived by: one daughter: Melanie (Mike) Durkee of Smethport two sons: William "Bill" (Sharon) Kohler of Smethport and Dennis "Denny" (Lois) Kohler of Charleston, WV Grandchildren: Theresa, Janell, David, Michael, Kelly, Bradley, Jennifer and Joel Eight Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Bud was preceded in death by one son, Roger Kohler on June 13, 2014, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16 at 11:00 am at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, with the Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, PA or a charity of the donor's choice.
