Obituary of James Edward Prosser

Smethport - James Edward Prosser, 87, of Smethport, passed away Saturday (February 18, 2017) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born July 29, 1929 in East Smethport, a son of John F. and Kathryn Matteson Prosser. In 1960, in Winchester, VA, he married Judy L. Jewart, who survives. Mr. Prosser worked as a logger and was a farmer. He was in the U.S. Army, serving from 1951 to 1953, during Korea. He enjoyed animals, hunting and trapping. He especially loved beaver trapping. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: seven daughters: Jamilee (William) Levey, Gwen (Roy) Zylinski, Ann (Stan) Fitzsimmons, Ruth (Vince) Lushbaugh, and Wanda Duffy, all of Smethport, Pamela Dowell and Linda (Mike) Hayes, both of Tateville, KY, three sons: Douglas (Kim) Prosser of Limestone, NY, Howard (Debbie) Prosser of East Freedom, PA, and James R. (Hattie) Prosser of Mt. Jewett, PA many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren two sisters: Jeanetta Sweeley of Smethport and Josephine Ferguson of Florida one brother: John M. Prosser of Smethport and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 10-11AM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will begin at 11 AM, with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Norwich Cemetery, Colegrove.
