Obituary of Carol E. Potter Johnson

Smethport - Carol Eugenia Potter Johnson, 63, died unexpectedly at her home Tuesday, May 02, 2017. She was born January 18, 1954 in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of William F. and Anne Digel Potter. Carol graduated with the class of 1971 from Smethport Area High School and from the Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre, PA in 1974. After nursing school, Carol worked as an OR nurse in Toronto, Ontario. As a young woman she had a passion for sailing, snow skiing and being the "born to be wild" child of six. She has always enjoyed singing, playing the piano and the guitar. Carol had compassion on those that hurt; i.e.: the makings of a good nurse. On April 1, 1978 she married Karl A. Johnson who survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Carol Susan of Smethport and her son, August Hunter of Seattle, WA. Other surviving family members are her mother, Anne D. Potter, Smethport, PA and Round Island, NY; her brother and his wife, W. Scott and Debbie Potter, Grove, OK; her brother-in-law Keith D. Strouse, Clayton, NY; her sisters, Susan D. (Larry) Pollock, Apollo, PA, Harriett A. P. Harriger, Lubbock, TX and Amanda L. Potter, Potsdam, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, the late Honorable William F. Potter; her sister, Martha H. Potter Strouse; her maternal grandparents, R. A. and Mirabel Digel; and her paternal grandparents, E.G. and Marion Potter. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2017, from 5-8 PM at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM with the Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. In lieu of flowers, memorials, may be made to the Hamlin Memorial Library, 123 S.
