Obituary of Alice Marie Newman

Smethport - Alice Marie Newman, 84, passed away Sunday (January 21, 2018), surrounded by her family, at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, where she had resided for the last several years. She was born August 1, 1933 to the late Albert Durphy and Mildred Durphy Morgan. On April 5, 1952, Alice married the late Floyd Newman, Jr., who passed away on November 21, 1993. She never remarried. Alice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved making quilts and blankets for her children and grandchildren. Her love of sewing was passed on to many in the family. She loved playing bingo, music and baseball. She loved her dog "Princess". She touched many lives and will be sadly missed. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She organized several fund raising events, made lap blankets for local disables veterans and delivered them to many nursing homes. She attended several churches and was a member of the Christian Missionary Church of Eldred. Alice was a woman of strong faith. She is survived by: Nine children: James Newman of Port Allegany, Laura Burt of Olean, NY, Kendrick Newman of Smethport, Linda (Gilbert) Witte of Olean, NY, Loretta Ford of Smethport, Lenore (Donald) Glotz of Youngsville, Lisa Hadden of Smethport, Brodrick (Julie) Newman and Tina (Robert) Bly, both of Bradford 23 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren One brother: Kendrick (Winifred) Durphy of Eldred One sister: Loretta Williams of Smethport And several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Newman, a daughter in law, Linda Newman, and a grandson, Todd Burt. Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will be held on Wed. at 12 noon with the Rev. Robert Brest, pastor of the First Free Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum in Oak Hill Cemetery, Bradford. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford, PA 16701 or the McKean County Disabled American Veterans: McKean County #72, 911 Center, Smethport, PA 16749.
