Obituary of Roger A. Newton

Smethport - Roger A. Newton, 69, of Smethport, died Thursday (May 10, 2018) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born April 26, 1949 in Port Allegany, a son of Arlo C. and Martha Barnes Newton. Mr. Newton was a 1967 graduate of Smethport Area High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Roberts Weslyan College of Rochester, NY, where he graduated in 1972. Mr. Newton worked as a journalist and free-lance writer. He was employed by The Bradford Era for 20 years before his retirement due to ill health. Roger enjoyed reading, writing and golfing. He is survived by: one sister: Cynthia L. (Joseph) Crawford of Cyclone, PA a close cousin: Steve Newton of Texas a special niece: Laurel (John) Lucas of Warren, PA, and a special great nephew, Bryce. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 PM in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, with the Rev.
