Obituary of Mitchell Phillips

Smethport - Mitchell Donovan Phillips, 62, of Smethport, passed away Saturday (June 2, 2018) in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.

 

He was born June 10, 1955 in Olean, a son of Richard and Erma Higley Phillips.

 

Mr. Phillips was a 1973 graduate of Smethport Area High School.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976.

 

Mitch worked as maintenance director at Intermediate Unit #9 of Smethport for 20 years before retiring in 2017.  He also was employed at Costa’s Hardware Store in Smethport for 17 years.

 

Mitch loved fishing and hunting.  He especially enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Potter County.  He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents Richard and Erma, he is survived by:

one son: Donovan D. (Amber) Phillips of Smethport, PA

one step-daughter: Heather (Jon) Coscia of Eldred, PA

Grandchildren: Colin, Cody, Kolby, Adrianna, Nevaeh, Annabell and Tracy

one sister: Barbara (Lloyd) Burkhouse of Bradford, PA

one brother: Douglas (Christina) Phillips of Olean, NY

and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard W. Phillips.

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, from 10 -11AM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where memorial services will begin at 11AM with the Rev. Les Leet, officiating.

 

Memorials may be made to Eldred WWII museum, the Alzheimer's Association, or the Hamlin Memorial Library, Smethport, PA.  Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com
