Obituary of Elizabeth A. Faes

Smethport - Elizabeth A. “Betty” Faes, 88, of Crosby, passed away Thursday (June 7, 2018) in Myrtle Beach, SC.

 

She was born Dec. 26, 1929 in Kane, a daughter of Alan and Agnes Benson Ross.  On June 24, 1950, in St. Elizabeth Rectory, Smethport, she married Lawrence "Cino" Faes, who died January 15, 2011.

 

Betty was a 1947 graduate of Smethport High School.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. After raising her 5 children, she worked as a teacher’s aide for Head Start . During this time, she took courses through Pitt-Bradford and was promoted to teacher for Head Start, retiring in 1981. Over the past few years, she enjoyed spending the winter months in Myrtle Beach with her sons Valen and Ron.

 

She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, St. Elizabeth Church Women, was a former 4H Leader in the Smethport area, was on the Penn State Cooperative Extension, was a member of the Norwich Twp. Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 Auxiliary.

 

She is survived by:

one daughter: Dede M. (Greg) Latimer of Warren, PA

four sons: Steven L. (Bonnie) Faes of Crosby, PA, Valen J. (Ron) Faes of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lee A. (Roberta) Faes of East Smethport, PA and Daniel J. (Margie) Faes of Clarence Center, NY

10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren

two brothers: Larry Ross of Mt. Jewett, PA and Charles (Marty) Ross of Norton, KS

and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Ross.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, at 10 AM in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, Pastor, as Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.  A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 PM in the funeral home during visitation.
