Obituary of Paul Duane Elliott

Smethport - Paul Duane Elliott, 90, of Smethport, passed away with his loving family present on Saturday (June 30, 2018) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport.

 

He was born Feb. 9, 1928 in Coneville, PA, a son of Clair A. and Gladys Yeager Elliott.  Paul’s mother passed away early in his life, and he was raised by his father and stepmother, Bernice Swarthout Elliott.  On Nov. 4, 1950, in Ansgarius Swedish Lutheran Church, Smethport, he was joined in marriage to Marilyn Helene Alexis by the Rev. C.O. Thunberg.

 

Mr. Elliott was a 1947 graduate of Smethport High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950.

 

Mr. Elliott, in partnership with his wife, purchased C.A. Elliott Lumber Company in 1951.  The business later moved operations to Roulette, producing hardwood squares and dowels.  The business continues under family ownership by sons, Kurt and Kenneth.

 

Mr. & Mrs. Elliott enjoyed traveling in their motorhome throughout the United States and Canada.  They also spent time at the family cottage on Chautauqua Lake and often wintered in Florida.

 

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Smethport, Smethport Lions Club, Smethport Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Hardwood Lumber Manufacturers Association of Pennsylvania, where he had served on the board of directors.

 

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by:

three daughters: Gail Elliott of Smethport, Susan Irwin of Bradford, and Alexis (James) Clark of Smethport

two sons: Kurt (Lisa) Elliott of Coudersport, and Ken (Marlene) Elliott of Roulette

10 Grandchildren: Erin Murphy (Jon) Powers, Trey Murphy, Christopher Irwin, Kathleene (Alex) Durr, Andrew Clark, Allyson (Dustin) Anderson, Branson Elliott, Kirby Elliott, Zachary Elliott, and MacKenzie Elliott

4 Great Grandchildren

two brothers: Dale Elliott of Sayre, PA and Roger Elliott of Winchester, VA

and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Duane and Gary, as well as two sisters, Golda and Bonnie.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, from 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3 at 11:00 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, with the Rev. John L. Kallerson, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Coudersport, officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
