Obituary of Albert Joseph Rossi
Smethport - Albert Joseph “Oskie” Rossi, 93, of Smethport, passed away Sunday (August 5, 2018) at his residence in Smethport.
He was born March 27, 1925 in Salamanca, a son of Giovanni and Margaretti Genti Rossi. On May 7, 1949, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, he married Beatrice Marion Reed, who died November 28, 2013.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Rossi served in communications with the 1st Marine Division from 1942-1945 in both the South and North Pacific Theatre.
He retired in 1984 after working in various positions for 39 years at Pittsburgh Corning in Port Allegany.
He was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, was a past member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460, served as Democratic Committeeman and Boy Scout leader.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Albert J. Rossi, Jr., on May 25, 1990. He was also preceded in death by five brothers; Peter, Battista, Fred, Joseph and Louis, and three sisters; Teresa Carnicelli, Mary McGavisk and Rose Clark.
In keeping with Albert’s wishes, services will be held privately with family. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
