Obituary of Harry Edward Martin

Smethport - Harry Edward Martin, Sr., 85, of Smethport, died Tuesday (October 8, 2013) at his residence in Smethport, after a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 2, 1928 in Coryville, a son of Edward John and Ethel Delliah Austin Martin. On June 3, 1950, in EUB Church, Farmers Valley, PA, he married Audrey Jean Williams, who survives. Mr. Martin attended Farmers Valley and Smethport schools. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. Mr. Martin was employed by Dresser Manufacturing of Bradford, PA for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smethport, where he had been a past Senior Warden and past Junior Warden, was a member of the Smethport Senior Center, and participated in Meals on Wheels for many years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters: Linda Dian Johnson of Smethport and Phyllis Lorraine (Thomas) George of Marion Center, PA two sons: Harry Edward (Kathryn) Martin, Jr. of Eldred and Timothy Franklin (Melodie) Martin of Gifford ten Grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandchild one sister: Rhea Mae Williams of Smethport and close nieces and nephews: Sharon, Tina and Ted. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael E. Johnson in 1980, and one brother, Ira Simon Martin in 2000. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10-11 A.M. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Main St, Smethport, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joann Piatko, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
