Obituary of Harold R. Barnard
Port Allegany- Harold R. Barnard, 83, of Port Allegany, died Wednesday (October 16, 2013) in the Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
He was born Oct. 19, 1929 in Greenwood, NY, a son of Gordon and Marion Green Barnard. On May 3, 1952, in Bradford, he married Christine Jane Bell, who died November 6, 2000.
Mr. Barnard was a 1948 graduate of Port Allegany High School and was a Korean War vet serving in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. Mr. Barnard was a carpenter employed by Shields Lumber Co. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany and the Allegheny Mountain Engine & Implement Association (A.M.E.I.A.) of Port Allegany, and a lifetime member of the American Legion; Port Allegany Post #258.
He is survived by:
one daughter: Marion (Jim) Grove of Olive Branch, MS.
two sons: Michael (Rene) Barnard and Mark (Joy “Bunky”) Barnard, both of Port Allegany, PA
one sister: Maryetta Sutton of Jasper, NY
one brother: Donald (Grace) Barnard of Port Allegany, PA
Eight Grandchildren: Matthew Grove, Beth (Ethan) Butler, Jeremy Barnard, Amy (Sharon) Barnard, Sarah (Chad) Smith, Dustin (Jean) Barnard, Jordan Barnard and Chad Barnard.
Five Great Grandchildren: Ariana and Lincoln Barnard, Holden and Kinley Smith, and Kaiden Butler.
And several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Grove, and two sisters, Loretta Vetter and Irene Barnard.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 105 N. Main St., Port Allegany, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, at 11:00 am from the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred. Military Honors will be accorded by the Port Allegany Honor Guard. The Patriot Guard Riders will also be honoring Mr. Barnard.
