Obituary of James D. Russell

Smethport - James D. Russell, 49, of Smethport, died Sunday (November 10, 2013), from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born April 3, 1964 in Lompoc, CA, a son of Herbert A. "Mike" and Phyllis Jean McDowell Russell. On August13, 1992, in Harrisburg, PA, he married Kathryn "Carrie" M. Button, who survives. Mr. Russell was a 1982 graduate of Smethport Area High School and attended Lock Haven University where he received a Bachelor's of Science degree in special education. He was a special education teacher, employed by Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit #9 at the Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center in Port Allegany, PA. He was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 and the VFW Post #2497, both of Smethport. He was an avid fisherman and loved turkey hunting. In addition to his wife, Kathryn "Carrie" Russell, he is survived by: one daughter: Evelyn L. Russell of Smethport two sons: Owen M. Russell and Ayden G. Russell, both of Smethport father: Herbert A. "Mike" Russell, Sr. of Johnstown, CO two brothers: Herbert A. "Mike" Russell, Jr. of Smethport and Mark A. Russell of Punxsutawney, PA He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis J. Russell on June 15, 2011. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., at the Port Allegany Fire Hall.
