Obituary of Colleen M. Cooney

Smethport - Colleen M. “Mickey” Cooney, 83, of Smethport, died Sunday (November 17, 2013), at her residence in Smethport. She was born May 29, 1930 in Olean, NY, a daughter of Oscar Mark and Jennie L. Morgan Armstrong. On Aug. 7, 1948, in Smethport, PA, she married John H. “Red” Cooney, who died January 2, 1994. Mrs. Cooney was a graduate of Emporium High School and spent the majority of her life as a homemaker tending to the needs of her family. Family was everything to Colleen. She especially loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Smethport and she enjoyed Polka parties and taking trips to the Casinos. She is survived by: one daughter: Jeannette M. Woodruff of Smethport, PA one son: Robert L. (Jackie) Cooney of Smethport, PA five grandchildren: Steve Woodruff of Port Allegany, Daniel Woodruff of Smethport, Sheri Nedza of Brookville, Jeffrey Cooney of Smethport, and Heather Cooney of Lewis Run. six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday in the funeral home, at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford, PA 16701.
