Dear Sally, Michael and Cioffi family,
We were shocked and very saddened to hear the news. Betula lost the gatekeeper and the best story teller. Mr. Coiffi was a great friend to our entire family. Our visits to the cabin were always met with great anticipation of visiting with Mr. Coiffi and Sally, the stories and his great pleasure in keeping our place, his showing us things--photos and treasures hidden in his barn. My fondest memories began at a young age when my father introduced us to Mr. Coiffi on one of our trips and it continued to my last trip when we were on a working trip with my extended family. He finally drove up the hill using the new drive to check in and chat! We all had a great weekend with frequent stops by Mr. Coiffi as he checked on our progress and workmanship---his smile and his great pride in his hard work and longevity are what I will remember, along with the best stories---his service at the Battle of the Bulge, the thriving town of Betula, working at Quaker State, hunting, trips up the mountain to check on fracking, news around the neighborhood.
Our family considers ourselves very fortunate to have known him and share in the saddness of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I have know Tom almost my entire life but unfortunately only see him a few times per year. He and his family have always been welcoming to our family. One funny memory I have from my childhood is when I was hunting on the Cioffi property. Tom didn't recognize me and he yelled in that loud voice and started to approach me. I was just a scared kid so I took off running. He was probably in his 60s at the time but he chased me halfway up the mountain. I was afraid of getting lost so I had no choice but to surrender. When I told him who I was he said something along the lines of "Well why the hell didn't you just say so. You made me walk halfway up this ******* hill for nothing.
Thank you Tom for your service and thanks to you and your family for your generosity over the years. Our hearts go out to Sally, Mike, and extended family.

My dad ( Harold W. Taylor)and Tom, two young men from little old Betula Pa both entered the army and both fought together in one of, if the not the most fierce ground battles during WWII, the Battle of the Buldge. We lost many many men in that battle but, it shows the toughness of the men from Betula Pa, thankfully they both survived and remained friends their entire life. Thanks for your service to our great country Tom. I worked and lived at the Glen Minnier (another of Tom's childhood friends ) farm for a few years which adjoins Tom's homestead and had many conversations with him during that time and can always remember being out in the barn milking and doing chores and could hear him with that deep voice and Chick having conversation down at their farm. I still come home to Betula often and always stopped when I saw Tom out and had old times conversations and was fortunate to chat with him on my last trip up just a few months ago, he has never changed over the many years. Sally, my prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time and I hope that you and Tom's memories put a smile on your face often and for many years to come.

My favorite memory of Tom is from a visit I made to Smethport about 8 to 10 years ago. He drove me over to Port Allegany where we both got haircuts at his favorite barbershop. Afterwards, we grabbed lunch nearby where he told me wonderful stories about his time overseas in the military as a young man. He was always kind, generous, and welcoming to me. I will remember him fondly. My condolences to Sally and all of his extended family.

Sad to hear of Tom's passing. Over 60 years ago, Tom netted the largest Brown Trout I ever caught in Potato Creek. If He hadn't netted it, I'm sure it would have gotten away as I had light line and a kid's pole. I often think of Tom and Sally and was fortunate to have visited Them a couple years ago. Tom definitely Lives in the hearts of all of us who were fortunate to know Him. Sally, Jean, Mike and His Family are in my thoughts and prayers.
