Have known John since I was a kid. Always enjoyed visiting Him when I was back "home". Once when I was on leave from the army, I got stuck in the mud near his farm. It was around 2:00am and raining cats & dogs when I knocked on His door. He didn't hesitate getting his tractor and pulling my car out. We were both soaking wet. I tried to pay Him but He refused. He asked me where I was stationed, and I said, "Fort Jackson". He replied, "Billy is taking Basic Training there. Appreciate if You'd stop by and see how He's doing". I thanked Him and made sure to stop by and see Bill. I told Him His Brother had done me a big favor and was concerned about how He was doing. John and His Relatives and Friends are in my Thoughts and Prayers.

To the Silfies Family..Probably none of you know me, but I knew John when I was just 16. Some of us used to cut classes and spend our time with John when he had his shop in Smethport (!963). We all looked up to him and it was a pleasure to be around him. After I went in the Service, (1965) I lost track of him and never saw him again. A good man and a great friend to us kids, the world has lost some luster in his passing. May he rest in peace, and sincere condolences to the family...LeRoy Work
