Obituary of John C. Silfies

Smethport - John C. Silfies, Sr., 85, of Clermont, passed away Thursday (May 27, 2021) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.

 

He was born February 7, 1936, in Clermont, the son of Clinton and Alva Anderson Silfies . On December 16, 1961, he married Veronica Sturdevant, who survives.  They were married for 59 years.

 

John was a self employed equipment operator.  He owned and operated his own excavating company, John’s Excavating.  He also owned his own garage and body shop for many years.  He had also worked for several garages in the Smethport and Bradford area, including Quirks Ford Garage, Carl Ferman’s, and Casey Cole’s.  He also worked for several excavating businesses in the area, including Greenman Excavating and Chad Moses Excavating.

 

In addition to his wife, Veronica, he is survived by:

One son:  Daniel “Joe” Silfies of Clermont, PA

Three daughters:  Nancy Howard of Okeechobee, FL, June Stolt of Rochester, NY and Cindi Silfies of Lewis Run, PA

Grandchildren:  Mike Greeman, Amanda Jackson, Rusty Silfies, Douglas Silfies, Joe Stolt, Dustin Howard and Seth Howard

12 Great-Grandchildren

Two sisters:  Jane Cogan of Crosby and Ellen Herzog

And several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John C. Silfies, Jr., along with one brother, William “Bill” Silfies.

 

In following John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
