A most caring and kind man to be loved by all. To Janene, Kurt, Brett, look for the light of day because that is you dad lighting your way. May God Bless You!! I worked with Steve and his three older brothers in the late 50's at "the feed mill" for $.25 an hour. It was a great time being with the Herzog "guys". When we moved back to Smethport around 2005 my wife Arlene met Steve. Since my wife didn't like the smell of diesel fuel, Steve would run out and pump it for her. Around this time Steve asked me to come up and have COFFEE with him. I never did and regret not going back to "the mill' for coffee. May he have eternal rest with the Lord.

Steve was a truly wonderful man, who welcomed me into the extended Herzog 'clan' with great warmth & kindness, in my marriage to Debbie! I am shocked & saddened by his death and now carry so many thoughts about him in my mind & spirit...
Across the miles, I am with all his loved ones, both mourning & celebrating memories of him. I
send my deepest sympathies to all Stephen's closest kin at this very difficult time: know that I will always remember Steve with great respect & affection, along with a painful sense of loss!

Heartbroken over your loss, Janene, Brett & Kurt. Your Dad was one of the kindest most sincere people I've ever met. Whenever I walked into the store he always welcomed me with a smile or a funny story about he & my Dad from high school. Wish I could make it to his visitation tonight. Deepest sympathy to you & your family. Bobbi, John Jay & Bailey Morgan

I often felt sorry when Steve delivered to our home. He looked so tired, but his gentle smile soon took over. He exemplified the terms of service and strength. We exchanged stories and learned family histories as we enjoyed coffee. We became friends and always will be.........

To Janene, Brett and Kurt (Hugo) sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. Whenever I was at SAHS late or coming home from refereeing, I would stop for gasoline or a snack. Your Dad always made a point to say hello and ask how I was. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Dearest Herzog Clan,
We are all very saddened to learn of Stephen’s passing. We will always remember his wonderful smile, contagious laughter and great hugs. Be at peace Uncle Steve. You are now in the land where there are no tears and sorrow. Walking into Herzogs will never be the same again. I hope you will have a blissful reunion with those who have gone before you and we will see you on the other side. Good bye Uncle Steve.

I'm looking at Steve's graduation picture in our 1961 high school class year book. This is what it said about him, "The little man who drives a wicked truck is our boy Steve from Farmers Valley. When he isn't burning up the road or playing a real hot trumpet, he's bowling. Because he is one of our most popular classmates, we will not soon forget this cheerful worker with the pleasing personality that wins friends."

Steve, I cannot begin to express how much you will be missed in my life and in that of all of the other lives you have touched. Every time I drive by your office window I will still be expecting to see you there working even at 2:00AM in the morning. This is all so hard. Do they have fuel delivery trucks in Heaven??? Miss you, Brother.

Don't think of him as gone away--
his journey's just begun
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost--
and he was loved so much.

No words can describe our heartbreak, Steve. Life will simply not be the same without you. Our only comfort is in knowing that as I write this, you are looking into the eyes of Jesus and are reunited with many loved ones... especially, Mom, Dad, Greg, Robert and your beloved Becky. How blessed we were to have had you in our lives and how blessed I was to have had you as a brother.
