Obituary of Gloria Katherine Donovan

Smethport - Gloria Katherine Donovan, 87, of St. Marys, PA, formerly of Ridgway and Smethport, died Tuesday (November 19, 2013) in Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys, PA. She was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Shamokin, PA, a daughter of Elvin W. and B. Katherine Wilson Long. On June 20, 1947, in Williamsport, PA, she married James Edward Donovan, who died August 17, 1998. Mrs. Donovan was a graduate of Williamsport High School and attended Lock Haven State Teacher’s College. She was employed as the food services director at the Ridgway High School for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Smethport, PA and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Ridgway, PA. Gloria loved to make people laugh and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by: four daughters: Linda K. (Bill) Lake of Smethport, PA, Cathy A. (Larry) Noga of Surprise, AZ, Jenny L. DeVallance of Surprise, AZ, and Molly M. (Tim) Geitner of St. Marys, PA one son: Mark J. Donovan of Williamsport, PA 14 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Elvin W. Long, Jr., during the Pacific Theater of World War II. Visitation will be held privately with the family. Public funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23 at 12:00 noon from the Hope Lutheran Church, Pine St., Smethport, with the Rev. Tom Beam, pastor, officiating.
